FAMI-QS Certification

The scope of FAMI-QS includes Specialty Feed Ingredients, defined as intentionally added ingredients that affect the quality, safety, or performance of feed and animal products. The certification applies worldwide and covers production processes such as chemical, bioprocessing, mining, extraction, mixing, and formulations or preparations. All processes follow the FAMI-QS Code of Practice to ensure consistent quality and compliance with international feed safety standards.

The FAMI-QS Scheme establishes a complete feed safety management framework with an accredited system based on Good Manufacturing Practices and human health protection. It includes HACCP-based controls for each process, mandatory Feed Fraud Prevention and Feed Defence modules, and unannounced audits for producers and traders. The scheme ensures transparency through a public list of certified operators on the FAMI-QS website, promotes auditor competence development, and supports worldwide trade in Specialty Feed Ingredients and their mixtures.

FAMI-QS certification applies to all major activities within the global feed supply chain. It covers production, where raw materials and semi-finished goods are transformed into safe feed ingredients, and trade, which includes buying, handling, storing, transporting, and selling specialty feed ingredients under controlled and traceable conditions. The FAMI-QS certification process begins with downloading and reviewing the FAMI-QS Code of Practice, Feed Fraud Prevention Module, and Rules for Operators. Organizations then conduct an internal audit using the official checklist, define the certification scope, and submit an application to the FAMI-QS Secretariat. After application review, approval, and membership payment, an Approval Letter is issued. You then select an approved certification body such as IRCLASS IRQS to conduct Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits. Audit findings and corrective actions are reviewed before final certification. Once approved, your company is listed in the FAMI-QS Directory and maintains certification through annual surveillance and recertification every three years.
